Introduction to WAK  

Every October, Kuching becomes a lively center of creativity with the What About Kuching (WAK) festival. This month-long event celebrates the rich arts, culture, and lifestyle of Kuching and Sarawak. With art exhibitions, music performances, theater, dance, and workshops, WAK brings the city’s creative spirit to life.

Launched in 2017, WAK was inspired by the question, “What about Kuching?” Since then, it has united local and visiting artists, making Kuching a cultural hotspot. The festival is open to everyone, giving talents from all backgrounds a chance to shine.

Mission and Objectives  

WAK’s core mission is to celebrate and promote the arts, culture, and lifestyle of Sarawak. The festival aims to:

- Increase appreciation and support for local arts within the community  

- Boost tourism and contribute to the local economy  

- Provide platforms for creatives to showcase their talents  

- Foster collaborations that elevate Sarawak’s artistic standards  

WAK’s Expansion and Growth  

After a two-year break due to the pandemic, WAK returned in 2022 to strong support from both the creative community and audiences. The 2023 edition marked a special moment of reconnecting with the spaces, people, and dreams that have shaped the festival.

Now in its 6th edition, WAK has expanded beyond Kuching, with satellite festivals in Miri and Sibu. This expansion strengthens the connection across Sarawak, making the festival a true reflection of the region’s rich artistic diversity.

The 2024 What About Kuching (WAK) festival will take place from 1-31 October 2024 at different spots around Kuching. This year’s theme, “Let your senses come alive,” invites everyone to explore the unique arts, culture, and lifestyle of Sarawak.    Welcome to Kuching Hobby and Comic Con, where enthusiasts of all ages gather to celebrate their passions! Explore a bustling Artist Alley, join gaming tournaments, and unleash your creativity in cosplay workshops focused on western pop culture, comics, and retro cartoons. Meet beloved comic artists, find exclusive merchandise, and immerse yourself in the world of pop culture.
2. Sarawak Coffee Ceremony
   Date: Sat 19 Oct, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
   Location: Black Bean Coffee @ Tabuan Desa
   Admission: RM50 (ages 12 and above)
   Organizer: Black Bean Coffee & Tea Company – Sandra Wong & Mango Tan (+6082-367 533)
   Celebrate Sarawak’s specialty coffee, including the rare Liberica bean, at this unique ceremony. Baristas will prepare various coffee styles like pour over, siphon, and espresso while you savor the distinct aromas and flavors of each bean. This event includes light refreshments and is limited to 20 people per session. Register by 16 October 2024.
3. The Muses Season 2
   Date: Sat 26 Oct, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
   Location: Uncle Teck’s Kopitiam, Gala City
   Admission: RM150 (Gold Seat), RM100 (Silver Seat); Early Bird prices RM125 (Gold Seat), RM80 (Silver Seat)
   Organizer: Estoilles Brilliantes Event Management – Khalid Zainuddin (+6019-232 1896)
   Back for its second season, The Muses is a pageantry modeling competition that seeks fresh talent from all backgrounds. Watch aspiring models grace the runway alongside new designs and collaborations with top glam teams. Don’t miss this night of fashion and creativity!
