Northeast Monsoon Intensifies

Malaysia is currently in the Northeast Monsoon season, which brings heavy rains and heightened flood risks, especially in low-lying and coastal areas.

Flood Situation in Kelantan

Continuous heavy rain since Tuesday has caused severe flooding across Kelantan, forcing 1,338 people to evacuate to 39 temporary relief centers (PPS). The affected districts include Jeli, Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Pasir Puteh, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Kota Bharu, and Machang.

The Social Welfare Department (JKM) reported the evacuees include 927 adults, 383 children, and 28 infants. Several rivers in Kelantan have reached dangerous levels, including Sungai Melor in Bachok, Sungai Lanas in Jeli, and Sungai Kelantan in Machang.

Tips to Stay Safe During Floods

  1. Stay Updated: Follow weather updates and flood warnings from MetMalaysia and trusted sources.
  2. Prepare an Emergency Kit: Include water, food, medications, flashlights, and important documents.
  3. Evacuate Early: Move to higher ground or nearby relief centers if advised by authorities.
  4. Avoid Floodwaters: Do not walk or drive through floodwaters to prevent accidents or infections.
  5. Turn Off Electricity: Switch off electrical appliances and main switches to ensure safety.
  6. Stay Connected: Inform family and friends about your location and plans.
