Is an International Driving Permit (IDP) necessary?
  • Yes, an IDP is mandatory for foreign drivers renting in Malaysia, effective from December 2023. However, drivers from ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) are exempt from this requirement and can provide their own country-issued driving license.

For drivers from non-ASEAN countries, an IDP is required.
