Singapore Airlines' low-cost carrier, Scoot, will launch its maiden flight to Melaka International Airport by the end of September, announced Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, the state tourism, heritage, art, and culture committee chairman on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.  He also mentioned that the airline plans to operate six daily flights from the airport soon.

Boost for Local Tourism

It’s expected that each flight will bring over 100 passengers to the state, significantly benefiting the local tourism industry. He also mentioned that the state government has secured a long-term deal with Scoot Airlines.

This news comes after a period of inactivity at the airport, which saw the cessation of commercial flights in September last year due to two service providers withdrawing due to insufficient passenger numbers and high operational costs. 

Expanded Destinations

On March 5, Scoot announced it would start flights from Singapore to six Southeast Asian destinations using its new Embraer E190-E2 planes beginning in May. These destinations include Koh Samui in Thailand and Sibu in Malaysia, along with existing routes to Hat Yai and Krabi in Thailand, and Kuantan and Miri in Malaysia, as stated by Scoot.
