Must-Do Activities on Singapore National Day 2024

Singapore National Day marks the country’s independence from Malaysia on August 9, 1965. It’s a day of patriotic displays and cultural performances across the nation. This year, it will be packed with exciting activities! Fireworks will light up the sky in five different heartland locations, so you don’t have to squeeze into Marina Bay for a spectacular view.

Here’s a simple guide on what to do for enjoying the National Day 2024, free fireworks viewing spots, and other fun activities!

1. Participate in Activities Before National Day

  • #GiveAsOneSG: Promoting Volunteerism

Organized by SG Cares, Singapore Red Cross, and Goodhood.SG, #GiveAsOneSG aims to raise awareness and participation in volunteer activities as part of the Year of Celebrating Volunteers initiated by MSF and MCCY.

  • #TogetherAsOneSG: Celebrating Unity

This campaign encourages national pride and community cohesion through activities such as FlyOurFlag, EatAsOne, August Goes to School, Dance of the Nation, and Singapore@Home. Organized in partnership with various organizations including Agency for Integrated Care, Families for Life, MOE, and SportSG, it aims to unite Singaporeans in celebration leading up to National Day 2024.

The National Day Parade 2024 will take place at the Padang and Promontory at Marina Bay. You can watch it live on TV or soak in the atmosphere at the venue.

Highlights:

- State-Flag flypast by a Chinook and two Apache helicopters

- 21-gun salute

- F16 fighter jets flypast around 6:50 PM

This year’s theme, “Together, As One United People,” celebrates 40 years of Total Defence. The parade showcases community and government responses to various threats and sees the return of a volunteer contingent from SAF and the Home Team.

Pre-event performances include students, local artists, and the Red Lions parachute team. The segment “United We Stand” will feature the SAF Band and four secondary school bands.
